SUMMER FAIR AND PATRONAL FESTIVAL
Thank you to everyone who helped with the summer fair yesterday! Watch this space for funds raised. The fair was part of the church’s annual patronal festival, which ends today with our Parish Eucharist celebrating the Birth of John the Baptist.
SUMMER QUIET DAY
There will be a Diocesan Quiet Day at Wychcroft in Bletchingly on Saturday 27th July from 10am to 4pm. It’ll be a day of ‘quiet reflection and prayer’ in the Surrey countryside. The cost is £30, which includes Wychcroft’s ‘legendarily lovely’ lunch and other refreshments. To apply, please email email@example.com.
CREATIVE ART RETREAT: RESPLENDENT BEAUTY
Wychcroft will also host an art retreat on 17th-19th September. Participants will consider how God transforms us from the inside out, is our shelter and our provider –exploring biblical themes through drawing and painting butterflies. CHRISTIAN AID WEEK
Thank you to everyone who contributed to Christian Aid Week. Through activities in church and a bucket collection at Eltham station, we raised the amazing amount of £1,137.35. Margaret Taylor also completed the Circle the City Walk and sent £100 to Christian Aid, of which £42 came from members of St John’s who sponsored her.
GROWING IN FAITH AND LIFE
Applications are open for the Bishop’s Certificate in Discipleship 2019-2020, a 10-month course entitled ‘Growing in Faith and Life.’ The course, which runs from September to June, has six modules, including the history of the Anglican Church, what Christians believe, and ethics.
The Bishop’s Certificate is taught on a termly cycle on a midweek evening or Saturday daytime, whichever is preferable. It ends with a residential weekend at Wychcroft, the Southwark Diocese training centre. Do pick up a leaflet at the back of church for further details. Eight members of the church are to be confirmed by the Rt Revd Dr KaroweiDorgu, Bishop of Woolwich, on Sunday 14th July at St. John’s. As part of the preparation for confirmation, candidates will attend two classes to be held in church at 10:30am on 29th June and 6th July. Please pray for the candidates.
The Southwark Diocese will hold a spirituality day on Saturday 19th October at Southwark Cathedral. Entitled ‘To Be a Pilgrim,’ the day conference will ask what it means to be a pilgrim on the Christian journey. Speakers include Dr Meg Warner, an Old Testament scholar and author of books on Abraham, and Bishop of Southwarkthe Rt Revd Christopher Chessun. The day runs 10am-4pm and costs £8. Our Junior Church and crèche, run by members of St John’s, are looking for more adults to get involved. We’re seeing growing numbers of families coming to church, for which we give thanks, and we want to make sure our Junior Church and crèche are well-staffed to welcome all children.
