Sunday 29th September

Our Harvest Festival Eucharist will be next Sunday at 10am. If you can, please bring in donations of food, toiletries and clothing for the Manna Society, whose day centre in Bermondsey provides meals, showers and medical care for more than 100 people aday. Items most in need include sugar, powdered milk, tinned vegetables and rice, as well as soap, shampoo and underwear. There’s a full list on the church noticeboard.

At Harvest the church celebrates the goodness that God provides for everyone. As part of the celebration, all are invited to stay after the service for a ‘bring and share’ brunch. If you’d like to bring some food from your kitchen, please do; if that’s not possible, do stay and eat anyway – there’s always more than enough for everyone.

The Ferrier Operatic Society will present their annual concert at St Mary’s Church, Welling, on Friday 11th October. The event raises vital funds for Greenwich Welcare, which works with underprivileged families in our borough. Come and hear songs and choral arrangements on the theme of ‘What a Wonderful World’. Tickets are £10, including a drink and nibbles. See the poster on the noticeboard for more details.

As most of you will now know, Fr Jim has been appointed to a new post, as rector of four churches in the Diocese of St Andrew’s, Dunkeld and Dunblane in the Scottish Episcopal Church. His last Sunday at St John’s will be 27th October, following which the church will be in interregnum until a new priest is appointed. Fr Jim will be greatly missed, and we’d like to bid him a fond farewell following his last Parish Eucharist with a glass of wine and light refreshments in church. All are invited!

The latest brochure of events and courses run by the Southwark Diocese is now published. The theme of the 2019-2020 programme – ‘Walking, Welcoming, Growing’ – runs through a range of courses aimed at nurturing us in our discipleship and ministry. Please pick up a copy of the brochure at the back of church.

If you would like to make a financial offering to the church and are a taxpayer,

it would help the church if you use a gift-aid envelope. This will enable the church to claim 25p for every £1 you give. Envelopes are at the back of church. Thank you.

Please send any items for inclusion in next Sunday’s news sheet to Amanda Jordan at by Wednesday morning. Thank you.
