ADULT LEARNING AT ST PAUL’S CATHEDRAL
Booklets are available at the back of church with the programme of events at St Paul’s Cathedral for Autumn-Winter 2019/2020. There are also posters of key events on the church notice-board in the south aisle. Events include the Most Revd Michael Curry, who preached last year at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Bishop will be speaking in October on ‘Where Love is the Way: the Jesus Movement Now’. Also, the renowned New Testament scholar and Chancellor of St Paul’s Cathedral, Paula Gooder will speak in November on ‘God With Us: Seeing the Christian Stories with Fresh Eyes’. Please take a copy of the programme for details of these and many other events.
The Southwark Diocese will hold a spirituality day on Saturday 19th October at Southwark Cathedral. Entitled ‘To Be a Pilgrim,’ the day conference will ask what it means to be a pilgrim on the Christian journey. Speakers include Dr Meg Warner, an Old Testament scholar and author of books on Abraham, and Bishop of Southwark the Rt Revd Christopher Chessun. Flyers are available at the back of church.
A TREE FOR ST JOHN’S
St John’s will receive a tree to plant in the churchyard as part of the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy, or QCC, initiative, which was launched in 2015. The tree, which will be either a hazel, birch or rowan, will be delivered and planted in October.
The project has grown out of the work of Cool Earth, a charity that works with indigenous rainforest communities to prevent climate change through deforestation. The Queen has embraced this initiative with enthusiasm, supporting the creation of a pan-Commonwealth network of forest conservation projects.
Climate change and environmental protection are key concerns for the Church of England, and at St John’s we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint

If you would like to make a financial offering to the church and you are a tax-payer, it would help the church if you use a gift aid envelope and write your name and address on the envelope. This will enable the church to claim 25p for every £1 you give. Gift Aid envelopes can be found at the back of church. Thank you.
Please send any items for inclusion in next Sunday’s news sheet to Amanda Jordan at email@example.com by Wednesday morning. Thank you.
